Bipasha Basu doesn’t smoke!
Bipasha Basu refused to smoke or even hold a cigarette for a scene in Pankh. Why was she acting holier than thou? On the sets of Pankh, sultry Bips refused to hold a cigarette so smoking was out of the question. Director Sudipto Chattopadhay wanted her to do it for a vital sequence where she is singing. She refused to do it because she hates smoking and smoking on-screen would be encouraging people to smoke to look hot and sexy. Bipasha flatly refused to be associated with a cigarette as she felt it was not essential for the scene. She does not endorse smoking and drinking Sudipto had no choice but to comply with her wishes. He shot the scene with a canister in such a way that it appeared as if smoke was coming out of her mouth.Wah originality. We don’t understand why Bipasha is acting like this. She had no qualms doing an item song called Phoonk De in No Smoking.
The song had a smoky atmosphere and John was obviously smoking in it and she was encouraging him to do so. All this for Vishal Bhardwaj, who gave her Beedi Jalaile. The seductress was encouraging people to smoke in the Phoonkh song and would have also converted non-smokers to smokers. It is a known fact that everybody in Bollywood (including health freaks) smokes to deal with the stress and pressure. If Bipasha doesn’t smoke, where does she get her husky, smoky and sexy voice from? And smoking is an unhealthy way of losing weight and reducing hunger. In fact, models rely on coffee and cigarettes to maintain their size zero figures and Bips was a model once too.
There is such a thing as being professional and pulling out all the stops for a role. After all, even Priyanka Chopra puffed away, sniffed lines of coke and went on alcohol binges in Fashion, a role which won her all the awards. Take a hint, Bips!
